It’s a very heartfelt twist on the formula. Yet in the climax of season four, he rescues Martin from being consumed by The Lonely - it’s a bit complex but essentially he did it with the metaphysical power of love which is a plot I’ve never seen done with an aspec character. While he can be incredibly cold and detached (also hilariously socially awkward at points) and slides into very morally dubious territory as the story unfolds but it’s very clear this is nothing to do with his sexuality (the creeping supernatural influence and generally god-awful situation the heroes are in is not helping). Their Importance: He’s off-handedly noted to be asexual by his ex-girlfriend and what with all the horror going on there’s no time to angst or base plotlines about it (everything else I’ve read with canon ace characters make a huge deal of it so it’s a welcome variation for me). ![]() ![]() A forerunner of these stories is Kipling's "How Fear Came", in The Second Jungle Book (1895). ![]() The stories, first published in 1902, are origin stories, fantastic accounts of how various features of animals came to be. The stories illustrate how animals acquired their distinctive features, such as how the leopard got his spots. These had to be told "just so" (exactly in the words she was used to) or she would complain. Kipling began working on the book by telling the first three chapters as bedtime stories to his daughter Josephine.
