![]() ![]() I am of two minds about Latchkey - I really love the characters and the author's style of writing and I was happy to revisit them in this book, but at the same time I thought Archivist Wasp was a perfectly complete story that didn't need any sequels, and I think so even more strongly now. ![]() Latchkey continues the story begun in Kornher-Stace’s widely acclaimed Archivist Wasp, an Andre Norton Award finalist that was selected by Kirkus Reviews as one of the Best Teen Books of 2015. ![]() To save Sweetwater, Isabel will have to unlock the secrets of the twisted experimental program from centuries gone by that created the supersoldier and killed his friends: the Latchkey Project. Years ago Isabel befriended a nameless ghost, a supersoldier from the Before-time with incredible powers even after death, and their adventure together in the underworld gave her the strength and knowledge to change the brutal existence of the Catchkeep acolytes for the better. They live in an uneasy alliance with the town of Sweetwater-an alliance that will be tested to its limits by the dual threats of ruthless raiders from the Waste and a deadly force from the Before-time that awaits in long-hidden tunnels. Isabel, once known as Wasp, has become leader of the fearsome upstarts, the teen girl acolytes who are adjusting to a new way of life after the overthrow of the sadistic Catchkeep-priest. ![]()

![]() ![]() As I arrange my new office, I’ll take time organize things and set priorities for the new year. 30, so we’ll greet the new year unpacking and organizing. In fact, many gifts were mash-up creatures including a “Shorse” (a shark head on a horse body) and a “Doguine” (a dog head on a penguin body). ![]() They enjoyed every gift, even the socks and underwear that often bore pictures of fanciful creatures. What a treat to watch them tearing open their Christmas gifts with glee. After the moving van was loaded, we drove four days though freezing weather and brisk winds and arrived at our daughter’s house in time to spend Christmas with our grandchildren for the first time. ![]() Tam and I worked furiously for the last six weeks packing and getting ready to move to the Chicago suburbs where we could be close to our daughter and her family. A photo of our new house (from the realtor listing). ![]() ![]() The illustrations are intricate and interesting. When the boy grows up and has a baby of his own he moves away to an ideal spot of unspoilt beauty and you can tell what you're meant to think happens next.Ī pity, 'Belonging' was lovely but this felt like being sledgehammered with a message and then hit again once you'd got up. Decay in the garden accompanies a missile hung from the window, a boy aiming a catapult, mac Donald's packets on the windowsill. I found the book very negative, within 16 years this isolated house in the country has had a city spring up around it complete with airport, even the mountains disappear. Like 'Belonging' this window scene shows small details to mark the passing of the baby's years. The story starts with a mother and baby looking at a countryside close to utopia, mountains and trees, nothing else. ![]() Perhaps it was reading the authors note about ecological damage after reading in her last book how she collected sponges for her collage that made this seem a like an example of practise what you preach, but where I found 'Belonging' subtle and touching I found this frustrating. After really enjoying 'Belonging' I expected to love 'Window' just as much. ![]() |
